Trauma Therapy

Trauma isn't defined only by what happened, it's also about how those experiences continue to affect your life. Whether your trauma stems from a single event or repeated experiences over time, its impact can show up in many ways, including anxiety, difficulty trusting others, feeling emotionally overwhelmed or disconnected, low self-worth, people-pleasing, hypervigilance, or feeling "stuck" even when you're trying to move forward.

Many people are surprised to learn that trauma isn't always obvious. Experiences such as childhood emotional neglect, relationship betrayal, medical trauma, loss, or growing up in an unpredictable environment can leave lasting emotional wounds, even if you've told yourself, "It wasn't that bad."

Trauma therapy provides a safe, supportive space to understand how your experiences have shaped the way you think, feel, and relate to yourself and others. Together, we'll explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion; not judgment. As we process what you've been through, you'll develop healthier ways of coping, strengthen your sense of safety and self-worth, and begin building the life you want rather than continuing to live in survival mode.

Healing doesn't mean forgetting the past. It means reducing its hold on your present so you can experience peace, resilience, and connection.

What Does Trauma Therapy With You Look Like?

Traditional talk therapy can be incredibly helpful, but for many people, especially those with a history of trauma, it isn't always enough on its own.

Research shows that traumatic experiences are often stored not only as memories but also as sensory, emotional, and physiological responses within the nervous system. This is why simply understanding what happened doesn't always change how your body reacts. You may know you're safe, yet still feel anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed, or constantly on guard.

That's why my approach goes beyond conversation. I integrate traditional talk therapy with EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and experiential therapies to help address both the mind and the body's response to trauma. Healing isn't just about retelling your story, it's about helping your nervous system learn that it no longer has to carry the weight of the past.

Sometimes you'll come to session with plenty to say. Other times, the words won't be there, and that's okay. Our bodies often communicate what our minds cannot. Through guided visualization, connecting with your inner child, mindfulness, meditation, and other experiential techniques, we'll create space to gently explore what your body has been holding for so long.

No two sessions look exactly alike. Some will be filled with conversation, laughter, reflection, and learning new information/ skills. Others may involve slowing down, closing your eyes, tuning into your body's sensations, or processing experiences in a way that doesn't rely on words alone. I'll meet you where you are each week, using the approaches that best support your healing in that moment.

My goal is to help you move beyond simply coping or understanding your experiences intellectually. Together, we'll work toward helping you feel more grounded, connected, and free- not just in your thoughts, but in your everyday life.
